Running the race with Passion

Philippians 3:10 That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death. Last week we looked at running our Christian race with perseverance. This week, we will look at running the race with passion. Paul ran his race with passion. Passion for his calling made Paul cry “That I may know Him”. That passion craves for personal relationship with Christ.

Running the race with Perseverance

Hebrews 12:1-3 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, & the sin which so easily ensnares us, & let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author, & finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, & has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Purpose of God for the Family

The devil is aware of the importance of the family; hence he is attacking the family unit. God originated family – Family is divine in origin. Genesis 2:18-22 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Rule over sin

Genesis 4:6-7 Sin could be defined as disobedience or rebellion against God. The original translation means “to miss the mark” of God’s holy standard of righteousness. David prayed that let not any iniquity have dominion over me (Psalm 119:133). Cain’s sin was a slippery process. He started off wrong because his parents disobeyed God hence the seed of sin was sown in him.

Who can bear a broken spirit? - Jesus the burden bearer

Proverb 18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness but who can bear a broken spirit?

I have seen many people that survive terminal illnesses because of sheer determination while some die of diseases that were not terminal because they give up. The world talks about “positive thinking” but we, children of God, have a better hope – a living hope.

Prayer is the Key

Psalm 50:15-16 Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” 16 But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare my statutes, or take my covenant in your mouth.

As children of God, we have a covenant with the highest. When we are in trouble and we call upon Him, He will answer us. This is our right.

Don't give up

Hebrews 3:14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,

Partakers of Christ in Living Bible version states “share in all that belongs to Christ”. In NIV, it states “share in Christ”. What makes us “partakers of Christ” is our ability to maintain our conviction to the end. God is not pleased with that person who “draws back from following Him.

Manifestation of God's presence - Unity

Acts 2:1-3 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Last week we looked at the presence of God in the life of an individual child of God as one key to manifest the presence and dwelling of God in the church as a whole.

Manifestation of God’s Presence – Individual

It is the will of God that He dwells with His people. Without Him, we can do nothing (Acts 17:28). It is to our benefit that He dwells with us individually and as a church.

Revelation 21: 3-4 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God, Himself will be with them and be their God.  4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
